Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-moving, high-volume branded fashion business as a Garment Technologist across womenswear. You will be responsible for managing technical development across the category, ensuring garments meet fit, quality, safety and compliance standards, while supporting on-time delivery and strong commercial performance.
Working cross-functionally with Design, Buying, Sourcing and suppliers, you will oversee product integrity from development through to bulk production, ensuring brand standards, retailer specifications and licensing requirements are consistently met.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing fit, construction, grading, fabric performance and testing requirements across the category
- Leading fit sessions and providing clear technical guidance to ensure consistency and accuracy
- Updating and maintaining technical workbooks, incorporating styling and measurement amendments with clear manufacturing instructions
- Ensuring all products meet brand standards, licensing requirements and retailer specifications
- Identifying quality and production risks early and implementing corrective actions
- Working closely with suppliers to resolve technical and quality issues efficiently
- Driving right-first-time development to reduce sampling iterations and improve development lead times
- Owning the technical critical path for allocated styles, ensuring approvals are achieved within agreed timelines
Person specification:
- Strong understanding of apparel manufacturing processes and garment construction
- Confident dealing directly with factories, with a solid understanding of how they operate and are structured
- Comprehensive knowledge of fit, pattern, size grading and grade rules (pattern-cutting knowledge is desirable)
- Highly organised with strong prioritisation skills and the ability to work to set timelines
- Excellent attention to technical detail to ensure products meet required standards
- Clear and confident communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to work cross-functionally
- Flexible, proactive and able to adapt to changing business needs
