THE ROLE OF THE FASHION DESIGN STUDIO

THE ROLE OF THE FASHION DESIGN STUDIO

Shelley Pinto, MD and Val May, Senior Consultant on our Design and Technical Department attended a recent networking event organised by  Eric Musgrove and Leon Bailey-Green, discussing the role of the Fashion Design Studio within todays’ fast fashion environment. Key Speakers included Kate Bostock former General Merchandise Director at Marks and Spencer, Fiona Lambert former VP at  George and Shailina Parti, Buying and Merchandising Director at Jigsaw.

What with the likes of Tommy Hilfiger and Burberry offering a see- it now -and -buy it now service from their runway collections, to the obsessive need for discounted ranges being offered on our retail high streets, how responsive is the supply-chain on these demands and are the buyers overlooking design creativity to meet these demands?

In addition, an interesting discussion around whether traditional seasons are still relevant as we deal with climate change, the evening certainly raised a lot of interesting discussions and things to think about the changing role of the design studio as we move in to 2017.

Shelley and Val both have over 25 years’ experience recruiting at a senior level in the design and technical industry are experts in their field if you are looking for a career change or looking to recruit then please feel free to contact either of them.
