Our client is seeking a dedicated Technical Manager to oversee our technical operations, ensuring the highest standards of fit, quality, and craftsmanship. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a small, skilled team and work with major UK retailers and supermarkets, delivering products that meet their exacting standards. They are looking for a candidate with a practical, hands-on approach coupled with excellent interpersonal skills who is prepared to take ownership of the technical department and drive continuous improvement. This role is based in my client's London office and does offer some hybrid working.
Main Responsibilities will include:
- Managing and mentoring a team of 3 to 4 Garment Technologists, fostering a collaborative and driven technical environment
- Developing and maintaining technical procedures to guarantee garments are fit for purpose, compliant, and of high quality
- Collaborating with product development teams to achieve optimal fit and sealing of garments
- Acting as the primary technical contact for key retail customers and internal stakeholders
- Leading garment fittings, conducting technical assessments, and resolving any fit or quality issues promptly
- Ensuring product compliance with customer standards and UK regulations, maintaining a proactive approach to quality assurance
Person Specifications:
- 10+ years' experience in a technical role within apparel (supplier and/or retail)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a technical management role
- Strong technical knowledge across multiple product categories
- Excellent communication skills, capable of liaising confidently with both internal teams and major retail clients
- Leadership qualities with a proactive approach, able to motivate and lead a small technical team effectively
- An eye for detail and strong problem-solving skills, particularly in fit and quality control Experience working with major UK retailers and a strong understanding of their requirements, including fit, seal processes, and in-store quality expectations
- Experience with sustainable products and materials (desirable)
- Ability to work under pressure to meet critical path deadlines
- Highly competent IT skills
