A unique opportunity has arisen for my client a leading retail group who are looking for PR and Social Media Executive to support the Head of PR in a fantastic and diverse role developing and delivering proactive and reactive strategies and activities to maintain and develop the reputation of this retail group supporting the Groups PR and Events functions as required as well as supporting and maintaining the social media accounts for the high profile Chairman .In addition you will also be required to undertake business and political research, particularly into areas relevant to small businesses and retail.


Main Duties and Responsibilities will include

  • Support the development and maintenance of a high quality, positive and relevant profile the chairman who is a high profile individual across all media.
  • Supporting the Head of PR,to provide timely and appropriate responses to matters raised to optimise positive and minimise negative news and coverage.
  • Maintain and use effective and efficient media monitoring tools and ensure relevant information is shared and circulated quickly and effectively.
  • Be the "Social Media expert" for the business, reacting effectively and driving the use of social media as a promotion, communication and monitoring tool. To stay on top of social media trends and opportunities for the Chairman and the group
  • Take responsibility for special business projects and events, developing and raising awareness and managing key tasks,
  • Responsible for twitter, facebook and maintenance of websites for events .
  • Knowledge of GDPR regulation re: data handling.
  • Compiling and creating monthly newsletters
  • Help to create content for the annual event.
  • Identify and investigate business and political developments likely to be relevant and of interest to the group .
  • Produce timely high quality and accurate research
  • Research relevant markets, competitors, national and trade social media activity.
  • Play an active role in networks and groups that will help the business develop key media relationships
  • To support personal TV, radio, event appearances by the Chairman with the production of high quality research and appropriate media coverage before, during and after the event.
  • Generate a buzz and excitement around new store openings, trials and promotions through creative media campaigns and communications.
  • Proactively contribute to the group events internal calendar with hands on support for and involvement in activity.
  • Ensure timely and effective response to customer communications raised via social or other media.
  • Ensure key executives are made aware of significant issues or trends and the actions being taken to address them.
  • Promote sponsorship and charitable events via social media to maximise participation and fund raising.
  • Work with fantastic partner brands and charities; ensure the group works effectively and productively with them to ensure great results for all.
  • Help to create the quarterly internal magazine,
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of all media activity
  • Ensure effective PR escalation of and follow through on any interest at a personal or brand level.
  • Track spend and maintain all activity within agreed budgets - seeking always to provide best value within a lowest cost to operate approach.


Person Specification

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in PR/media background, whether in house or at an agency.
  • Experience or working within retail or with brands preffred
  • Must have a genuine interest in business and politics/current affairs,particularly relating to small businesses and retail.
  • Ability to research business and political issues and summarise them concisely and accurately for use by individuals or businesses.
  • Excellent understanding of how to use social media proactively and effectively with a keen eye on upcoming trends
  • The desire to work in a passionate and fast-paced environment with high profile individuals.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines within changing priorities and strict diary limitations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confident dealing with senior executives in the office and adept at creating strong relationships .
  • Passionate with high levels of resilience and energy. Able to remain calm and focused in a pressurised situation.
