Job description

We are working with an established fashion-led retailer is seeking a Head of Planning to lead end-to-end merchandise planning, drive profitable growth, and optimise stock investment across channels.

You'll partner closely with Buying, Retail, Ecommerce, Supply Chain and Finance to deliver strong seasonal outcomes.

Based in Australia with a competitive relocation package available.


Main responsibilities will include:

  • Lead seasonal and annual sales, margin, intake and stock planning across channels.

  • Own WSSI / OTB and drive disciplined stock investment and reforecasting.

  • Trade in-season performance, identifying opportunities/risks and acting quickly to protect profit.

  • Shape markdown and promotional strategy to deliver sell-through and terminal stock targets.

  • Translate budgets into category plans (options, depth, flow) aligned to the commercial strategy.

  • Partner with Buying/Design to build balanced ranges (width/depth, key lines, flow and pricing).

  • Oversee stock optimisation and allocation outcomes (right stock, right place, right time).

  • Deliver clear reporting, insights and post-season reviews to improve future performance.

  • Lead planning processes and continuous improvement across tools, ways of working and governance.

  • Develop and inspire a high-performing planning team; coach, performance-manage and succession-plan.

Person specification:

  • Senior merchandise planning background within fashion/apparel retail.

  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing planning teams.

  • Strong capability across WSSI, OTB, forecasting, and stock optimisation.

  • Demonstrated success improving sales, margin and stock productivity through trading decisions.

  • Highly analytical with strong commercial judgement and problem-solving ability.

  • Confident stakeholder manager; able to influence Buying, Retail, Ecommerce and Finance leaders.

  • Clear, concise communicator with strong presentation skills.

  • Advanced Excel and strong planning system literacy.

  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment; resilient, proactive and delivery-focused.

  • Collaborative, customer-led mindset with a passion for product and performance.
